Elizabeth I

The Elizabethan hammered sixpences - coins over 400 years old! Due to their age, the softness of the silver and poor striking (it was all done by hand) the portraits on these coins are quite often hard to make out, but the reverse side is nearly always well defined and the dates very clear to see.

A coin with a clear portrait is very desireable to collectors which makes them more expensive. Elizabeth had several different portrait types and when struck clearly these coins are truly beautiful.

The rare milled (machine made) coins are smaller, much clearer and highly desireable and so more expensive, they are however, exquisitely designed and very detailed.

If you want something special then a 400 year old Queen Elizabeth I sixpence is hard to beat - how many hands will these coins have been in !?

Quite Simply the best Elizabeth I sixpence we have ever had!

This coin is in excellent condition. It has a wonderfully clear impression of the bust to the extent that the Rose behind Elizabeth's head looks like it has just bloomed, it has a 3D quality.

The reverse is sharp with two small areas of wear in the shield but the date is crystal clear. There is some wear around the legend, but the coin is unclipped and has no bends or cracks.

Coins like this do not come along very often and if you want the best you can get then look no further. Magnificent!

Elizabeth I - 1572
Lovely budget buy Elizabethan sixpence. A lot of the detail has been worn away but the date can still be made out as can the outline of the bust and rose. A good sixpence.
