 | Edward VII - 1901 - 1910 The portrait on the sixpence of Edward VII were the first to be engraved using a mechanical reducing machine. These dies were then hand finished. Coins from this period are plentiful although many show large amounts of wear. Coins in Extra Fine condition are desireable and can bring a high price.
During the reign of Edward VII the Wright brothers made the first powered flight (1903), the Suffragette campaign was launched (1906), Louis Bleriot flew across the English Channel (1909).
