James I

The James I sixpences are extremely popular at the moment for weddings because of the date 1606 - these coins will be 400 years old at the time of the wedding! Minted in the year that Guy Fawkes tried to blow up Parliament - these coins are packed with history.

The price depends on the grade of coin and as with many of the hammered coins the portrait is often poorly struck. The reverse side is usually clear though and we only buy coins where the date is clearly visible.

A James I sixpence would make a really special gift for your intended!

Very clear example of these fabulous coins. Minted by hand just two years after the Pilgrim Fathers left Plymouth, how many hand has this sixpence passed through and what happened to it to take the small chunk out of the edge? Lovely coin with loads of history.
