Thanks for such a great service with lovely handwritten note. The presentation is so nice, that I can't bring myself to open the box, to look at what I ordered! I am sure my nephew will be thrilled with his Christmas present. Best wishes.

Is that a hole in your sixpence?

George I - 1723

Fabulous sixpence from 1723. At some point in it's 290 year history this sixpence was given as a "Love Token". This means it was bent twice. It has since been straightened but you can still see the lines where it was bent. It also had a hole drilled through it so that it could be worn on a chain. On the reverse of the coin are the letters "SSC" which stand for the South Seas Company that mined the silver used in the coin. A lovely piece of history.

Simply breathtaking! This ancient sixpence was made at the Tower mint. Someone at some point had the romantic idea of piercing a hole through it, to wear as Jewellery. This sixpence is a gift for someone very special. You have all the ingredients; History, Romance and a sixpence in very fine condition! The first sixpences were introduced under Edward VI.

William and Mary 1693

These coins are unusual in that they have the busts of both the King and the Queen on the front. They were only minted in 2 years, 1693 and 1694. It is very rare, you can get your hands on a William and Mary with as fine detail as this ! To get one in this condition, without any hole pierced through, you would be looking at around £600. Someone over the centuries, had the romantic idea to wear this sixpence as Jewellery, and pierced a hole through it. This coin is quite a find, Spink reference no. 3438. A very special gift for someone !
